RUN SMARTER, NOT HARDER.
As a career Soldier in the U.S. Army, running is a way of life. He is passionate about the sport of running and credits the mental toughness and discipline learned from running directly to his success in life. Running enabled him to overcome the challenges of a broken home and on to a successful military career.
His mantra, “Do Hard Things” has inspired many to take on difficult challenges in life. Jay has trained and ran distances from 400 meters through 50K. Jay is a multi-sport athlete with experience in triathlon, adventure racing, mountain biking, ultra distances in canoeing and cycling, and obstacle course racing. He has experience as a group fitness instructor and has experience promoting race events and as a professional timer.
"If you're new to running or wanting to achieve new goals, such as improving race times, I highly recommend Jay Tiegs as a running coach. He has created a marathon training plan for me this fall that has helped me get into better shape and to run smarter, not harder. I ran a marathon this past Sunday at the Bass Pro Conservation Marathon in Springfield and I set a new PR, beating my marathon PR last year by 19 minutes! Jay has taught me some basic running principles, adjusted the training to meet my needs and prescribed a training plan that is productive yet minimizes the chances of injury. Committing to and executing the plan made my body strong and Jay's mentoring and support made me mentally strong as well."
"I’m not the smartest runner and am a stubborn you-know-what when it comes to training and time, but I can’t say enough about Jay Tiegs and his running plan.
I was able to balance my time in the gym with the steps under my feet, with check-ins and good honest conversations about my goals.
Truth be told, I’ve learned to enjoy the time running, learning how to things like threshold, strides and being able to trust this plan.
I can’t wait to crush tomorrow's 50k!"
