Some Recommendations

I hope this blog finds you well. As I write this I just finished the entire #livehard program last week, had a medical procedure that went well, and I am on day 34 of my running streak despite a nagging left ankle injury from a silly bathtub incident. I am always really interested in recommendations for people so here are a few things that I am currently into that you may find useful. I would love to hear your feedback!

What I'm reading: I am currently reading a series of books on personal finance by David Bach who is a the founder of FinishRich.com and a best selling author. He wrote the books, "The Latte Factor", the "Automatic Millionaire" and "Start Late, Finish Rich." I have recently read all three and am applying his strategies to my own personal finances.

My current read is "Start Late, Finish Rich" and it is essentially a play book for those in their late 30's, 40's ,and 50's who may feel behind in putting money away for retirement and provides actionable steps. There is even a chapter about how to ask for a raise. What I love about this book is that he gives encouragement and provides actionable strategies for anyone to be able to retire wealthy with some simple financial habit tweaks. The "Automatic Millionaire" is the book we are reading in the mastermind group "The Forge" and we are doing a 30 days to financial fitness challenge.

What I'm watching: I have been watching "The Last Dance" on NETFLIX, a documentary about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls franchise during the 90's. It has a lot of unseen footage and it is absolutely fascinating. I remember watching the Bulls when I was a teenager. This documentary is outstanding and runs about 8 hours total. The only time I have really watched the NBA was this period of my life. Due to the fact Michael Jordan is such a popular athlete, I think anyone would find this series fascinating. It is well done.

What I'm listening to: Tim Ferriss Show #482: Steven Rinella- a short introduction to true wilderness skills and survival. Steven Rinella is the host of MeatEater and The MeatEater Podcast. In this episode, he talks about wilderness skills and survival considerations that we should all take into account based on his real world experiences. I found this interview very insightful and he gives some solid practical tips and things to consider. Most of the so called survival shows on t.v. are made for entertainment. He discusses some situations he was in and provides some truly valuable insights that could prepare you to deal with a situation.

Quote I am pondering:
"Silence is the respite of the confident and strong." -Ryan Holiday.

I have decided that I am not going to participate in arguments this year over trivial things. I don't need to participate in every argument that I am invited to. It is a waste of time and energy to argue with people I disagree with. People are really unhappy right now with the current state of affairs. I feel that I can best serve myself and my family by establishing a couple boundaries for myself and this is one of them.

I hope all is going well with you.

Do Hard Things,

Jay
